His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada

"golokera prema-dhana, hari-nama-sankirtana"

In 1965, at the age of 70, Srila Prabhupada traveled to America under the order of his teacher, bringing Krishna consciousness to the western world. He opened his first center in New York City in 1966. From a humble storefront, ISKCON has grown into a vibrant global community of centers, Vedic cultural celebrations, and vegetarian restaurants.

Tradition celebrates a culture in which "every word is a song and every step is a dance." When Srila Prabhupada brought the Krishna tradition West, he introduced the art of kirtan - powerful mantra vibrations carried by voice, mridanga, kartals, and traditional instruments.
